Photo samples nikon d3100 with wide angle lens?

I'm shopping for an ultra wide angle lens for my nikon d3100. My top choice at the moment (budget considered) is the sigma 10-20 mm. I'm wondering if anyone can point me to sample shots taken with the nikon d3100 and this ultra wide lens. The only examples I found on the net were taken with better cameras (nikon d300, etc.) so while these impressed me greatly, I'm afraid the quality of results I can get with the sigma on my d3100 will be less stunning. I'd love to see some actual sample shots taken with my same camera and the sigma lens, or even other similarly priced ultra wide angle lenses. Any suggestions? By the way, I'm after landscape shots, not interested in indoor.

Head over to flickr, there's bound to be at least a few hunderd examples there.

Here's a series of pictures uploaded to Flickr using the Nikon d3100 & Sigma 10-20mm combination.

Now here's some taken with a Nikon D5000, which as the same resolution as your D3100.

And for comparison, here's some taken with a Nikon D3000, which as lower resolution than your D3100.

From the looks of these images, the Sigma 10-20mm lens looks like an excellent optic.

Reality check required - you will not see any difference at all viewing a website picture on a pc screen as both cameras far exceed the resolution of any pc screen. Most pc screens are badly set up anyway with regards to brightness, contrast and colour balance, so image quality is even further reduced.

All you can realistically see is the amount of distortion in the images and that will be identical regardless of the camera it's fitted to, and will actually vary a little between individual examples of the exact same lens model.

The D300 has an amazingly good exposure meter which knocks most others into touch, and also a greater dynamic range than your model, but that's still not going to be particularly noticeable for most exposures when viewed online.

Just read the reviews (Digital Photography Review is usually very good) and when you view the images online bear in mind the limitations I've mentioned. Then pop along to a shop, try the lens on your D3100 and return home to print out the images on a decent printer, correctly set up for colour balance and using matched photo paper at at least 10" x 8" size, or send them to a decent lab where all that setting up has already been done correctly in advance. Only then can you can properly judge the results.

Ultimately though, if you've developed a good photographic technique then you'll take good images regardless of what you use. It's all about working within the limits of what you have.
