I just got a nikonD3000 & was wondering how to get the camera where instead of looking through the eye piece to take pictures, how can I see what I'm taking on the LCD screen?

The D3000 does not have that feature, and trust me, it is quite useless. The viewfinder is superior in nearly every way.

1. With "live view" (it is what you are describing), the light has to go to the sensor, be deciphered, then transfered over to the LCD screen, you will find yourself having slight lag which will anger many. The viewfinder is the actual light that goes through your camera, it is just bounced off a couple of mirrors.

2. The batter life with Live View is 1/3rd of that of a normal battery life. This means, if you can take 600 shots with your camera using the viewfinder, you can only take about 200 with live view

3. Live view only has two points of stability, your right and left arm. When using the viewfinder, you will have four points, your right and left arms, your face, and your chest.

the only thing live view is good for in my opinion is that you can take pictures above people's heads with more accuracy.
