D7000, D3000 or any dSLR out there. It makes no difference. If you are not familiar with the basic principles of photography, you won't be able to get the best out of any dSLR.

Look closer at the newer D3100.It is a far superior camera for not much more cost

I'd get a D3000 because the D7000 is not a full frame sensor. The image quality of the 2 will be almost identical in normal light. The D7000 will be superior in bad lighting conditions.

the D3000 is smaller, lighter and easier to handle, and that is a big plus. I have a D90, by no means a big camera, but even that when travelling can get annoying.

All this talk about superior functions is not important because the technology has been around so long, that it's so developed the cheaper cameras are pretty much as good. The D3000 won't be as fast, but really, unless you're a sports photographer or need to be superfast, there's not worries with a D3000.

As keerok said, unless you understand the bassic principle of photography, there's no point. Also your lenses mean more than the camera. I would get the D3000 and invest my dosh into some good glass.
