The D90 is far better. The D90 is a semi pro level camera. The D3000 is entry level. The D90 has more & better features. The D90 has better seals against dirt & moisture. The D90 may have metal parts where the D3000 has plastic.

If you have used an SLR camera before, the D90 would be your better bet. It is a better camera then the D3000.

But it seems that you have not done your research…

The camera is only as good as the photographer. You will only really see a difference in picture quality between the two if the only variable is the camera involved. You take the same picture using the same settings and the same lens at the same time. The difference will be very minor.

The D90 has a weather seal on it, which the D3000 does not. The D3000 having plastic as it's body is no con. This plastic is super heavy duty and will not break under any normal conditions.

My suggestion is get the D90, since you have prior knowledge, but if you can bump up your budget a tad, get the replacement of the D90, the D7000.
