Is the 7D good for video?

I hear that the 7D is great for video. I currently own a nikon d5000.it was my first dslr, and i have had it for two years now so i want to upgrade. I want nice 1080p video. I know the sensor is a small APS-C sensor. Does that affect it? I would LOVE the 5Dmkii but I really feel I'm not ready for something that expensive. I don't really have the money for the 5Dmkii, plus my sister has one and i could probably just borrow hers. I do film, also photography. Is the 7D a good film camera for the money?

btw don't recommend the 60D or the T3i. I really want the 7D, but i'm just wondering if it is worth it. Is it comparable to the 5Dmkii for film?

Well, i know you said not to, but for DSLR's the video quality can only get so high, there's sort of a limit to where you can only get better by actually going for the full on video camera. The T3i really can probably capture video just as well… Because the differences in the camera video-wise pretty much don't change as you get more expensive…

I have a Sony a55 and i shoot video professionally, it works great. A lot of people I work with use the 7D and I have shot on it also, it's a really great camera and the picture looks incredible I would definitely recommend it if thats what you want it's totally worth it.

The 5D is going to be a better camera overall, but again the video quality doesn't change a whole lot.

It's really up to you and which camera you like best… For example. The 7D does not have a rotating/tilting LCD screen like the T3i has… That's one reason I like the T3i.

I'd recommend going to a camera store and just testing a bunch to see which one fits your liking the best!

The 7D is a better specified camera than the 5D MkII in every regard other than resolution and sensor size; the 7D is a much new design, and the video, focus system, focusing and other aspects that were introduced with it have migrated to the EOS 1D Miv and 1Dx, but the older 5D has yet to catch up.

I use both the 5D and the 7D - it is true that the 7D has the smaller APS-C sensor, and that does mean that differential focus effects are easier to obtain on the 5D (the smaller the sensor, the greater the depth of field at any focal length and at any aperture); nevertheless, the 7D is a marvellous video capture tool with more frame rates and flexibility available to it than to the 5D (or to the Nikon, for that matter), and as a still camera, there's no other camera in its class to compare it with… Unless maybe its the new Sony A77. Could it be improved? A movable screen like the 60D would be nice.

If you have a 7D, you sister's camera will be pretty safe: you won't need it.

YES! If only I can afford to buy it, I will really buy it! It's better than 60D.

The 7D vs 5D debate has been going since the 5D MKII was released with video function.
I can simplify it for you.Pro's and Cons

5D pros - Larger sensor, (better in low light, shallower depth of field, less noise)
5D cons - Expensive body, expensive lenses, only 24, 25 and 30p rame rate.

7D pros - Cheaper body, cheaper lenses, 24, 25, 30, 50, 60p frame rates,
7D cons - APSC sensor (cropped image).

It basically boils down to sensor size vs frame rate.
If you are serious about video, you will have plenty of lights so the sensor won't make a difference because your ISO will be nice and low.
And you can pick up a Sigma 8-16mm lens that will go as wide as a full frame without distortion.
7D all the way!
