Is it worth upgrading from the Nikon D5000 to D5100?

Basically I have the chance to sell my D5000 without any hassle for a decent price which would mean adding just £150 to be able to get the D5100 but am wondering if the upgrade is worth it? The D7000 does not look to be a HUGE leap on from the D5100 for the additional cost… Any thoughts welcome.

As with any upgrade.ask yourself what your D5000 is not doing for you, then ask what the new features of the D5100 would bring you.

From your starting point the d5100 makes better sense but for a die hard old Nikonian (like me!) the d7000 offers a couple of extra features.

#1 the very desirable built in motor for AF with pre AF-S lenses.
#2 metering system with all Nikkors back to the 70's introduction of AI-lenses

This body then more closely conforms to the much hyped but rarely implemented true F-mount compatibility.

The D7000 has the new Sony sensor (same sensor as the Pentax K5), this, on it's own, is a huge upgrade in terms of low light performance and dynamic range. You do need good glass to get the best out of this new sensor, but even with the kit lenses you can really see the difference in your images which are on a par with a Nikon D3.
