Is $600 a fair price for a Nikon D5000?

I want to sell my Nikon D5000 because I need a little extra money. It's pretty much brand new. I never got around to using it much. I was going to sell it with the original box, the two lenses it came with, original battery, charger and an 8gb memory stick. Plus free shipping to whoever buys it. Is this a fair price?

Yes i think so

If it's in the condition you describe I'd say yes. Also, if you can get it, offer the shutter count. It's like the odometer on a car, one of the first things any experienced photographer will look at when buying used gear.

I would usually have to pay 700 for the body and 1 lens and 600 for just the body. So that's a good deal.Id buy that. Actually… Can you link me to your camera? Id like to buy it I think?

No, its way too high.

Here is a refurbished Nikon D5000 with a Nikon 18-55mm and Nikon 55-200mm VR for $550.

A refurbished camera is between new and used, but carries a 90 day factory warranty. At any rate, the refurbished camera will have been checked out by factory service techs, and will certainly have less mileage on it. And also realize that B&H is going to get top dollar for their equipment - you can expect to get less.

If your two lenses are the same as the B&H camera, I would say your camera and two lenses are worth perhaps $400.

A lot of Nikon equipment has a high resale value, but that is generally for the pro gear, not the consumer grade stuff.

You can also do a search on eBay for completed listings for your camera and lenses. Completed listings are those that have sold, and you will be able to get a pretty good idea of what they are selling for on eBay.
