I have a Nikon D3000 and would like to buy a new lense?
I would like a zoom abilty of up to 2000m. Any info of what type of lense I should buy would be great as I don't have much idea of what I need.
Many thanks in advance.
Added (1). So if we were trying to take a detailed photo of a T54-55 tank at 2K?
I see what you mean now, I surpose you could use your iphone to take a picture of it at 2k, but the detail would obviously not be very good.
Go to the Nikon website and look at the lenses they have.
Have a zoom ability of up to 2000m doesn't tell us much. If you want to take a picture of a finch from a distance of 2000m, then I'm pretty sure there's no lens out there that would do the job even if you pay $10 000 for something like the AFS Nikkor 600mm f/4G.
The only decent lens with a decent price that you should consider is the AFS Nikkor 55-200mm VR lens, which sells for a little over $200. There's also the AFS Nikkor 70-300mm VR, but that's more expensive.
You need to work out how much you're prepared to spend, a 150mm-500mm Sigma lens might be ideal for you if you are on a tight budget, but want an extreme zoom.
It's not zoom that you need. You are after magnification. Just see how many mm of focal length you can afford. Yes, correct. At 2000m, even with a dSLR, nothing would be very good.
NASA would be your best bet to get a lens that could do that
