How to upload pictures from a Nikon D3100 to your computer?
There are two ways;
1) Plug the camera's USB cord into one of the computer's ports.
2) Use a card reader (built-in or USB).
Either works well, with the card reader being, perhaps, a little faster, and neither is wrong if it works for you.
You have two options.
1. You can use the USB cable that comes with the Nikon D3100. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the mini USB port on your camera (behind the small plastic door on the left side of the D3100) and plug the other end into a USB port on your computer/laptop.
2. Simply take your SD card out and insert it into a card reader (which you can buy at almost any store that sells electronics) and plug the card reader into a USB port on your computer/laptop. I personally like this method because it tends to upload images faster than the alternative.
