I'm buying the nikon d5000 soon and I was wondering how to go about taking bokeh looking photos. Can you please make instructions simple since I'm a new photographer.

Here are some simple instructions.

Wider means a larger f-stop. Such as F/2. The smaller the number, the wider the opening is.

Set your aperture at the widest opening that your lens will allow (the smallest f-number). Depending on how "fast" the lens is, you will get more or less bokeh effect. (Obviously, you'll have to adjust shutter speed and/or ISO to allow for the widest aperture.)
