How to improve the audio on the Nikon D3100? - 1

I have been trying to make some videos lately with the new Nikon D3100 I have recently purchased. However the mono sound is very bad and is barely audible. Is there anything I can do or buy that can improve the audio. For example, clip on mics that go on clothing, Rodemic etc

If you're not covering the mic on the camera with something, and since the D3100 doesn't accept an external mic, your only alternative is to get an audio recorder. Run the camera and the recorder at the same time and synch them in post production.
