I'm currently using a nikon d3000 with an VR AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 lens. If i change the lens will the quality of my photographs improve? I feel like my photos now are not very clear nor sharp. What lens do you suggest me purchasing?

Added (1). What can I do to improve my photos?

Should I buy a uv filter?

If you are not getting good photos now, you need to figure out why. That setup should result in great photos, especially outside in the daytime.

Perhaps you have some settings that are not ideal?

Purchasing a new lens won't help if you are not using the correct settings.

Don't be frustrated, making mistakes is often the path to learning.

I agree with AWboater… The problem sounds like it is with the focus. That might be caused by the lens, but then again, it might be a problem within the camera body. If the problem is in the camera body then buying a new lens is a wast of money. You might want to have a repair facility check it out and see if they can diagnose the problem before you try the shotgun method of repairing it. Anyway, that's what I would do…
