How to attach a digital flash to a Nikon D40?
Any help
There's NO such thing as a digital flash.
All flash units can be used on both film and digital cameras
You need to attach the flash to the hot shoe on your camera.
Look on pages 2, 99, 100 and 117 of your user manual
I own a D40 (great camera) and I bought Nikon's least expensive flash for it -- the SB-400. The flash can be tilted so you can bounce the light for a more natural look. I think they run about 130 bucks or so. If you do a lot of indoor shooting -- GET ONE! Best thing I've ever bought to improve my indoors shots and some types of low-light outdoor shots as well. Like the other poster said, the flash mounts on the hot shoe on the top of your camera. You can find instructions in your D40 owners manual as well as in the flash's owners manual.
Check out this website for excellent info. On Nikon's least expensive flash and how to get good results with it: kenrockwell dot com On the main page in the search box, type in Nikon SB-400 and you'll get lots of good info.
Slip the foot of the flash to the hot shoe of the camera. Set flash to Auto-TTL and set camera to Auto.
