How much is a nikon d40 camera?
and is it worth getting even though it has 6 mega pixles?

I think its about 500 to 600 dollars. Is it a bargain? I'm not sure because I don't own this type of camara

It doesn't matter how many mega pixels there are in a camera. Most companies boast that they have the most mega pixels, but it is what else is in it that matters, eg, light sensors.

In US i think it should be around USD 700. But I would suggest you to give Canon T2i a try. It is the most recent DSLR launched in market (March 2010).It is trendy, less bulky, 18 megapixels, comes with 18-55mm IS kit lens and has full HD (1080p) video recording. Yes it is bit costly compare to other DSLRs under USD 1000 but believe me the results will amazed you. Most of the reviewers said that it is 7D in T1i body. If you want just Nikon then beef your budget a little more and get D90. Its just superb in all class. But my vote for T2i may be i'm using it and its just fun to explore it.

6 megapixels is not bad but D40 is an old camera. DSLR technology advances quickly and in my opinion you should get a Nikon D3100/D5000 or Canon T1i instead unless you are getting a very good deal on D40.
