How long does my NIKON D5100 battery last?
It's a "Nikon EN-EL14 Lithium-Ion" battery and I can only use my camera (Nikon D5100) for about an hour before I have to recharge. Is this normal? It is really bothersome…
660 shots (CIPA)
That is what the Nikon website says.
As you see, the battery is not rated by how long you can leave the camera turned on, but by the number of shots it can take on a full charge
Are you shutting the camera off between shots? Are you using other energy management tools, like keeping the LCD turned off unless absolutely necessary.
My camera is supposed to shoot 1000 shots per charge and with a fully charged battery. I have been able to get over 1200 shots, but keeping the camera turned of between shots. It was a habit I developed when shooting motion picture. Although I had a battery belt I was restricted to shooting two 400 foot rolls of film before needing to recharge those batteries. I learned how to be frugal with the film and use of the batteries.
Only 1 hour? My son can shoot in multiple days with one charge. Try fully charging the battery overnight or keep the following in mind.
