Does the Canon Rebel XS battery last long, and is it rechargeable?

I'm thinking of this camera, or the Nikon D3100 for my birthday present. Does the battery that the Canon Rebel XS come with last long, and is it rechargeable? What about for the Nikon D3100?

It is a pretty long lasting battery, and like every other DSLR on the market, it is rechargeable.

Of course it is rechargeable. I can't tell you if it lasts long because you have not told us what you consider long lasting to be.

I own a Rebel XS. The 1080 amp hour batter that comes with the camera is good for about
500 or so shots. I also have a couple of 1500 amp hour batteries that are good for about
750 shots.

You'd be smart to order a second camera battery. If you get the exact battery you won't need a second charger. If you buy the larger size you'll need a charger specific to that battery.
