How to use the Nikon D3100? - 1

I have NO idea how to manually set it. Or adjust the settling ect. Please don't tell me "Practice makes perfect" or "just play around with it" because I've asked this question 3 times before, and those are all the answers that I've got. I have a standard kit lens 18-55mm. Where and how do I go on the camera to configure settings to let me take photos like these:

P.S. Yes I know lighting plays a key too. But I'm just talking about being able to manipulate my camera. Instead of having it on auto mode.

What you are asking is unreasonable. It takes times to learn techniques that can produce images like that. Why don't you start my learning how to hold a dslr properly to create the sharpest pictures possible.

Also why don't you walk around and take photos. Then review those photos in the computer and look for photos you like. Then ask your self how you managed to produce that kind of photo and try to recreate it.

Get yourself a subscription to your regional photography magazine or read one online.

But the one thing that'll help you is Nikon's own manual in PDF

Read the instructions that came with your camera. Then take a beginner's photography class.

Get to know your camera's controls, then read a few books.

It takes a lifetime to learn all the ins-and-outs of photography, but a basic comprehension of your camera's capabilities and reading up on techniques will get you started.

We're not trying to brush you off, it's just that what you're asking can't be set out in a couple of paragraphs and took most of us years to learn, so it's either taking an experienced photographer everywhere you go, or learning how to avoid the bigger mistakes and then shooting.

Play around with settings because at the end of the day, practice makes perfect
