How to post process my IR photos?

I've been working with a nikon d5100 and a 720nm IR filter. I keep getting the very red photos which is expected but I can't get them to process right afterwords. I have access to adobe photoshop elements 8. You can find a copy of the image that I'm trying to process here:

thank you for your help. I'm new to this type of photography.

Did you have your camera converted to IR?

It looks like you just put and IR filter on an unmodified D5100. This will not give you the IR effect.

Nice photo. What outcome are you looking for. "… I can't get them to process right… " is kind of vague. I'll assume you want the regular "white" IR version although I really like your red one;-)

Here's a simple tutorial on post-processing infrared photos. The only thing you'll need to add to Elements is a Channel Mixer and you should add one to PSE 8 anyway.

Both the Grant's Tools and the Elements + (Plus) sets of actions for Elements have Photoshop's Channel Mixer. After installing either of them you'll find the actions in the Effects Panel (so in step #4 of the tutorial you will not be going to Image>Adjustments… ), click on the 3rd icon from the left (Photo Effects) and use the dropdown at the top right of the Panel to find the actions. Grant's actions will all be displayed with icons. Elements + is one icon that you double click on to bring up the menu of included actions. They have the exact same Channel Mixer - Photoshop's.

Click on "Demo version" down in the 4th paragraph to go to downloads.
