How to get the pictures from my camera to my computer?

I bought a Nikon D3100 14.2MP Digital SLR in May. I haven't had a lot of time to really use the camera. To make matters worse, I'm moving and I've packed the instructions. Please tell me what I need to buy to move the pictures from the camera to the computer. With other cameras there was a cord to attach to to do this.

Added (1). Thanks a lot! I knew I'd get help here. I'm going to check to see what was supposed to have come with the camera. I know I have a little card, so I'm good to go.

I think you just need a USB cable that fits your cam. Should have come with it. If not you should be able to buy one.

If your camera is one of those in which you use an SD card which is a little chip about 2 x 3cm, then you just have to take the card out of the camera and put it into the computer in the sd slot, and if there isn't an SD slot then you'll need to buy an adapter which you can put the SD card in and hook up to the computer using the USB connector. Once you have done this, a pop up will come up on your computer, then you need to click to view files, then simply transfer them over. If the box doesn't pop up, then go to your computer folder and look for it.

The easiest and best method to transfer photos and video from your camera to your computer is via a little USB card reader (which are very cheap these days and widely available).

Plug the reader into a USB port and insert the memory card.
It will show up as a drive, and you can simply drag and drop the photos across to the folder of your choice.

Card readers also work for moving photos from the computer onto a card (in case you want to take a few photos to get printed - NOT for viewing on the camera purposes).

The USB cord will probably be with the manual.

If your computer has a card slot, simply take the card out of the camera and plug it in. If it doesn't, invest in a USB card reader - you can buy them fairly cheaply just about anywhere.
