How to get lenses for my nikon d70 cheap?

Dan

I have a nikon d70, and i want to buy some lenses for it, but i'd rather not pay $100 for just one lens. What should i do to find some good deals?

Actually i'd consider $100 for one good lens to be an incredibly good deal. My two most commonly used lenses cost $400 and $600 each, and that's still considered to be a moderate price for good glass. It can easily go up far beyond $1000.
The cheapest lens that is usually considered to be a good one is the 50mm/1.8D, which costs about $150

What lenses do you currently have, and what kind of lens do you need? Perhaps there are some decent deals for used lenses available. But beware, there's lots of junk out there.

If you think $100 is expensive for a lens you are in the wrong hobby! A $100 lens would be considered EXTREMELY cheap!

Best option - sell your D70 and buy a point and shoot with the proceeds.

The others are correct (especially BriaR).

Photography is NOT a cheap hobby or profession AND $100 will only get you a cheap plastic lens (even a new Nikkor 18-55 "kit" lens is about $110 and the Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G is about $120).

If you want a good lens in your budget, I would suggest you go talk to "Two finger" Tony in the alley at 1st St. & Main after midnight on a Saturday. Tell him "Johnnie" sent ya.

I paid more than twice that for my Sigma 55-200 - a lens considered by many to be the cheap option.

You'll pay more than $100 even used for anything useful. I wouldn't avoid used equipment, but I would avoid used equipment that didn't come with a warranty.

I'd agree Dan, you're in the wrong hobby. I would wager no one ever told you this hobby would be cheap. So I'll ask you a question. Why would you take a fine camera like this and put cheap lenses on it? Makes no sense to me. Sound like a cheap $200 paint job for a high dollar sports car… Make sense? Of course not.
