Having Trouble Uploading My Images To My Computer In Raw Format?

Pres

I'm taking two photography classes at my community college. They had me switch to RAW format to take my pictures in. I'm trying to upload them to my computer to do my project but it won't let me look at them, it says unable to see them. But I can look at them on my camera. Not sure if i'm explaining this right. Its my first time using RAW. I have a Nikon D3100. How can I fix this?

Usually the camera comes with some kind of software that allows you to view and make basic edits on raw images. Did you install anything onto the computer when you got the camera? If you didn't, you should install one of these from the nikon website: http://support.nikonusa.com/...n-software
The view NX2 is probably your best bet, but I'm not sure because I have a canon, not a nikon. It seems to be free though, so I would try to install it and open the image in there. If that works, save the image as a JPEG. Websites like photobucket and facebook don't accept raw images. Some editing programs can open raw images (photoshop can, and I think lightroom can as well) but others can't.

Hope this works for you!

Remember the CD that came with the camera in the box? There's a program there to do what you want exactly.

You'll need a RAW converter (Capture NX 2 I believe… I'm a Canon guy myself) or, if you are using Photoshop, get the latest version of the Adobe Photoshop Camera RAW plugin.
