The AF-S Micro-Nikkor 60mm f2.8G ED Macro Autofocus lens will do what you want. Its priced at $539.95 at B&H - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/...ovideo.com

Comparable macro lenses from Sigma and Tamron are close to the price of the Nikon so you may as well go with the Nikon.

I own a Nikon D5000. If you want a great lens at a good price you could use for, well everything including Flowers. Get Sigma's DC 18-200mm 1:3.5-6.3 HSM. It's a lens that not only has telephoto zoom, but is also a wide angle lens, has macro capabilities, auto focus, image stabilization and shoots very high quality pictures with little noise when attached to the D5000.It's decently priced for a multipurpose lens like this one.

The 18-55mm kit lens will work pretty good since it has a minimum focus distance of 11 inches (as measured from subject to sensor plane which is near the back of the camera). Colors popping are mostly done through lighting and setting the camera saturation setting to vivid (see page 107 in your manual). When shooting flowers, I often use a flash, even when outdoors on a sunny day. Gel your flash with a 1/2 or 1/4 CTO or CTS filter to match your flash with sunlight temperature (lighting color).

If you want to go fancy, get the Nikkor 60mm AF-S micro (macro) lens. It's a great lens for closeup work and portraits.

The 60mm macro is a nice choice, it's now af-s so it can double as a portrait lens.

Optically all macro lenses are superb. Making colors pop is at least as much a matter of getting decent light on them.

Tamron 90mm f2.8 is a great lens. So is the Sigma 105mm f2.8.
