Good, High Quality Camera For Under $500?

I'm thinking of getting a new camera, I just don't know which one I want to get.
I was thinking of a Nikon D3000.
But I don't know. Which Camera would you recommend for under $500?

If you can find one for under $500, go for it, but most cost at least $550 and the ones with the most bang for the buck, figure on spending about $700

If you do want a DSLR, either the Nikon D3000 or Canon Rebel Xs
choose based on what feels best to you, both are good and can yield excellent results when used correctly

High quality costs money because they're expensive to make. You're not going to find a dslr camera for less than $500 and, as David wrote, most begin at $550 and go up from there.
If I were you I'd increase my budget and shop for the camera you want. I own two Canon dslr cameras and both are excellent but they're not cheap.
My t1i for example, set up the way I have it now, camera and lens = $1, 050. This doesn't include extra lenses, camera bag, tripods, extra equipment.
