Good additional lens for Nikon D3000?
I got this camera last year and was looking to buy a lens for it that will allow me to zoom in closer to things. I really have no idea what I'm looking for. Any suggestions? Thanks people.
Added (1). As I said… I really don't know much. I was looking to spend no more than $200, but it seems that I'll have to spend more than that.
Yes. A good all around lens is probably your best bet. The 18-200 is a good lens that you can mount and forget because it's wide enough yes has a pretty good reach.
And what do you have right now? You haven't read a little bit online? Like, what nikon lens is the best, or something like that? If you told us your budget it would be much more helpful.
Nikon 55-200mm, 55-300mm, 70-300mm and 18-105mm would be great.

How much money have you got? How close do you want to be to things?
A 300mm lens, or zoom telephoto, e.g. 55-300mm is probably along the lines of what you're going to be looking for.
Edit
Check ebay. You can get used lenses cheaper. Or visit any local camera shops to see what they've got in used stock.
You can go cheaper, but you get what you pay for.
I had a Sigma 70-300 on my Canon many moons ago. It's a reasonable lens and probably about half the price of the Nikon.
Or there's the Sigma 50-200.
Incidentally, B+H in New York have the Nikon 55-300 for $250 until the 26th Nov

If you're buying Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens for one of the new Sony Alpha series, this might be your best bet. The Tamron will include a 6-year USA warranty. It also includes the lens hood. The Sony 75-300 is repackaging of the older Konica-Minolta 75-300 lens, a lens that hit the market before any KM digital SLRs.
