Flash is stuck in my camera?

I have a Nikon D3100. Whenever I try to take a picture with flash, the flash doesn't pop up. It's loose, like it's trying to come out, but something is keeping it suck. I'm scared to keep trying because whenever I do, a weird smell comes out of the flash. I'm not sure what to do. Is there a way I can fix it myself? Or should I just send it to a repair store?

Can you try to gently open it with a pin or something? Flashes always have a bit of a smell when they fire.

Your D3100 is still probably under warranty? It has a one year warranty and the camera is not that much older.
So I would not mess with it - send it in to Nikon.
Go to the Nikon website and open a repair ticket.
