Does the nikon 85mm 1.8 af autofocus with a nikon D3100?
And is it much better than the regular 50mm kit lens
Added (1). Its a gift so i won't know much about this stuff
I go to the gym with a friend who knows. Ill text and catch up.
No. You need AF-s lenses in order to focus on your camera.
The 50mm lens is not a kit lens. It's a prime. The 85 is going to give the same quality, but be a much tighter/more magnification.
Only AF-S lenses will autofocus on your D3100.AF lenses will not. You can still use an AF lens, but it can only be manually focused.
The lens you have as a very nice lens, especially for portraiture. And for that purpose, you can take the time to focus it in that application. And if you ever get an upscale Nikon, the lens will autofocus.
