Does a Pentax lens fit on Nikon cameras? (Nikon D40) or do I need an adapter?

Pentax lens is in great shape > no oil or scratches > and I would like an f1.4 lens IF it will fit

Even with an adapter, you'd lose autofocus and most, if not all of your exposure modes.

Not really.
While there may be an adapter available, it will not allow infinity focus.
