Did you buy the Camera as "Body Only" than Yes You would actually be needing a lens.

Or

Did You buy the Camera as a "Kit" than No you Don't need a Lens which means the Lens is Included. However did you Set the camera/lens to Auto Focus.

Body only mean no lens. Cheap lens? Try the 18-55mm kit lens you should've gotten already or the 50mm f/1.8 AF-D. Settings? Set everything to Auto or Zero.

You will need to know about this.

A body only D70 can't take a shot. The camera will look for a lens unless its set to full manual. You can't say it's blurry because if you will set to M to be able to take a shot, you can take totally blank. Not blurry.

If you say blurry, there's an image but is not clear meaning you were able to take the shot. That means there's a lens attached into it but is not focusing correctly. It's hard to tell you what to do because you can't tell exactly what your problem is.
