Detailed Information on Editorial Photo Shoots?

I'm doing a school project, and it is based on fashion photography. I know the basics of what an editorial photo shoot is and what it is but I was wondering about how many photos do professional photographers take (approx) in one of these?
Also, any tips would be great. I'm using a Nikon D40x for the project.

Lots. Maybe 100 or 200, at least.

When I did editorial shoots like this, I might have shot anywhere from 700 to several thousand shots in a full day of production.

They take as many as is necessary to get enough for the article.
Could be 10 could be 100 etc.
