D90, make malfunction?

My Family
My Family

I got a Nikon D90 last year, it keeps having malfunctions of where it won't take pictures and says "error" on top. I have been told to pop out the battery, reattach the lens or reset it. The problem is for my line of work I don't have time to constantly keep doing that (also it is occurring more often as well as most of the time the 3 methods do not work).
Also a lot of people i have been talking to who have D90's say they have the same issue with taking pictures and thats why it was discontinued.

What's you opinion? Is it just me and a handful of people that have this problem or is it the camera?

Now that's difficult to figure isn't it. If others are having the same problem with their D90's then perhaps, and this is drastic, it's time to replace the camera.

Have you spoken with Nikon? It sounds like you've done everything you can short of replacing the memory card. If you've not tried that, perhaps that will solve the problem… I actually have no clue what could be causing the problems.

Get in touch with Nikon. The camera, no doubt, is out of warranty but if they can address and repair the problem perhaps a new camera won't be necessary.

In any case, good luck with this. I don't know about others but for me it's Canon products. However if you've already invested heavily in Nikon lenses, the choice is obviously Nikon.

Just you and those handful of people - i have a D90 myself and never heard of any such issues. It seems to be an unfortunate coincidence if several people at once had issues with it, but it's not typical of the camera itself.

If you got it only last year, it may still be on warranty… Have it checked at the camera store and eventually replaced.

By the way, the D90 has not been discontinued… It's still part of Nikon's lineup if you check the Nikon website. When it is being discontinued, then that will be due to being outdated, but not for technical problem reasons.

What lens are you using? Is the error a bit more specific, e.g. Does it include a number? E. G. If the lens has an aperture ring and it's not set to the biggest f-number, then the camera will complain about "err99"

In order to make the error go away, which of the things that you do usually works?'

Have you tried a different memory card? More often than not a low quality or about-to-break memory card is the problem.

I own two D90 bodies, and eight Nikkor lenses. These are my fourth & fifth Nikon bodies. I still own the other three, but no longer shoot film.

For many years, the D90 has been considered the workhorse of Nikon cameras, and has a sterling reputation. I have never heard of the problems to which you refer. Nor do other Nikon professional photographers, nor camera store owners, that I have asked. If your camera is not "gray market", then Nikon will repair or replace it under warranty.
