Connecting a nikon d3100 on the macbook pro to download pictures?

I just recently bought the new macbook pro and i'm trying to download my pics from my nikon d3100 through the ups port with the cord.nothing is coming up when usually on my dell it would come up nikon found and then something for the pictures would come up.am i doing something wrong or is the cord not compatible with the mac?

First it's the USB connector - UPS is a delivery company like the post office.

Second Mac isn't well equipped to deal with photos. You probably need some new software. Have you installed your Nikon software on your new computer? If not that's the problem.

I'd also suggest a USB card reader for all your uploads. Most of us here have been using them for years and wouldn't be without readers.
