Cheap Zoom Lens For Nikon?

So in my previous questions, I explain how I have a Nikon D5000, and that I'm going on a cruise around Italy, Croatioa, Greece, etc. I wanted the 18-200 with VR, but man it is expensive. What is a cheaper solution, Vr included? Also, is Vr a huge deal to have?

Zoom lenses are any lenses that can change their focal length. The 18-55 zoom lens is only about $150 and is perfect for just about everything you'd want to take a picture of.
