Canon versus nikon dslrs?

I'm looking into a new slr camera, and i've got it down to nikon and canon. For ou guys personally, which of the 2 brands do you prefer? And i've got some old nikon lenses in storage, so if i were to get a nikon it would be the d90 or up. What do you think is the canon slr that can be best compared with the nikon d90?

Depending on which le nses you have exactly it may be worth it to go to nikon.

My opinion:

Canon: Rebel series has the worst ergonomics and handling I have ever seen in a camera. The 40D and 50D were very nice cameras roughly comparable to the D80/D90. The 60D is a castrated 50D with the new sensor, not an attractive package in my opinion.

Nikon:
D3000: The latest incarnation of the D60 sensor. Not bad and very affordable, don't get in low light situations and you'll be fine.AF-S lenses only of course.
D500: The D90/D300 sensor in s a small package. Bit too small for my taste but solid performer.
D90: The workhorse for the serious enthousiast. A replacement is due any time but this is still an excellent camera for the beginner who wants to get serious with photography. Clear out sales should start in a week or two.
D3100: Fixes everything what was wrong with the D3000 and then some. Takes on the canon 550d/rebel t2i and gives it a good run for it's money.

For me personally it would be the Nikon. As you have some legacy Nikon lenses, Nikon seems to be the sensible choice. Because (unlike Canon) Nikon haven't changed their F mount since 1959, then your old Nikon glass will work fine with a D90. Old Nikon lenses were usually of superb quality, so if they've been stored well & not degraded (scratch, mould) then they would be a great start to your lens collection.

Other reasons why I prefer Nikon is to do my my personal shooting style, which involves off camera flash. Nikon beats the pants off Canon for this, having a wireless flash control system built in (in all but their entry level cameras), whereas the Canon 7D is the only one in the range that does. Also, Nikon allows rear curtain flash sync with ANY Nikon or third party flash off camera. Canon does not even allow it with its own brand flashes when used off camera!

Here are over 100 cameras listed by their sensor performance.

As you can see, when it comes to the heart of the camera, its sensor, there are many levels of quality and performance

If you look closely, you will also notice that the size of the sensor is much more important than the number of pixels placed on it.

Re: the Nikon D90.It was one of the most advanced camera of its time. If you can wait for a few months, its replacement will become available. At that point you have some good choices. 1) buy the D90 for a reduced price or 2) buy one of the most advanced new next step above an entry level camera available.
