Canon Rebel XS lenses?

I'm getting the Canon Rebel XS, instead of the Nikon D3000. I decided on Canon because if I get a more professional, like over 1000 dollar one in a few years, I will be able to use the same lenses I buy for this one. So I'm sticking to the Canon brand.
Anyways, it comes with an 18-55mm lens. What kind of pictures will this allow me to take photography wise? Any examples you can show me?
Also, what is the next lens I should get? A telephoto lens? For macro shots? I love to photograph flowers and such.

Here are some shots done with the Canon 18-55mm:
What lens should you get?
That depends…
-What's your budget?
If your going to be shooting flowers, then you might want to look into a macro lens. The exact lens depends on your budget.
-What else do you want?
I would also pick up a nice little 50mm f/1.8 "nifty fifty" lens for about $100.

You logic is funny
BOTH Nikon and Canon produce the cameras that the pros use and in fact there has been a swing toward Nikon's over Canon in the past few years, since the introduction of the Nikon D3 with its superb low noise at high ISO performance.
With either camera brand, the 18-55 mm is an excellent beginners lens. It can produce landscape, group and head and shoulder images.
For shooting closeups, you will need a good macro lens like the 60 mm f/2.8
For shooting sports, action or some wildlife, the Nikkor 55-300 mm or Canon 55-250 mm lens are good ones as entry level, sub $2, 000 lenses

18-55 will offer you a wide variety of shooting styles. It will generally be good for most things except for far away, super close, etc. As for getting your second lens it really depends on what you will be taking pictures of most. If you like taking pictures of flowers I suggest this lens <>http://www.adorama.com/CA6028AFSU.html?gt; Hope this helps!

Did you know you can get one lens that is both a telephoto and a macro? You could get a 90mm macro, a 105mm macro, a 180mm macro, etc. All telephoto and all macro. Do some research on lenses and you'll have a better idea what you want.
