I have a point shoot camera, but I want to upgrade to a DSLR and I'm between these two Canon --->http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_dynSessConf=7372512193288089536&id=pcat17071&type=page&st=Canon+Rebel+t3&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=15&sp=&qp=&list=n&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960 I'm not sure If I will be getting it with the package of extra lens or just the camera by itself. And Nikon ---> http://www.bestbuy.com/...ies&ks=960. Again I'm not sure If I'll be getting it with package or not. Which camera do you recommend and why? I will be a beginner with a DSLR. What are some of the camera functions you like about these? Which one has more functions? Which has better image quality? Which and why do you like that camera better
I'm going to go to best buy or fry's and play with the cameras and see prices today or tomorrow.

Buy cameras in a camera shop and not online. Yes, you are paying slightly more but that price is well worth it. If something doesn't work, you have a real physical person to scream at (I'm kidding, don't do this, politely ask them to see what they can do). Online, you are pretty much stuck with hoping for an e-mail reply.

As for Rebel T3 versus D3100, I would have to say go with the Rebel since I'm a Canon guy but really?

Both companies offer similar features, image quality and what-not. I'm sure the D3100 has an edge but I think the question is more what company do you want to go with and not what camera.

The choice between the two cameras is really a choice between the two companies. You go/went to Fry's/Best Buy, one of the cameras will fit your hands better (menus and buttons). That's the one for you.

Usually, getting the kit lens is best for the beginner. It gives you the flexibility to try most of the things you can do with photography: portraits, sports, kids, scenic things, animals, etc.

This is a decent tool to use to compare cameras.
