Can you use a cannon external microphone on a nikon camera?

I have a nikon D5100 and i wanted to get a Canon 2591B002 DM-100 Directional Stereo Microphone. Will it work or do i have to get a nikon mic?

A cannon is a weapon of war. A Canon is a camera.

If the microphone has the standard mic level out put and the proper size audio plug sure. In fact any mic with these standards, regardless of brand, should work fine.

However I'd recommend Shure or Sennheiser - the best brands out there. They're not cheap but they're the best available.
