Can you adapt a different sized lens to a camera?
I have a nikon D40 and I was offered a Tamron 200-400 lens my D40's lens is 52mm but the lens being offered is 77mm is there any way I can adapt it to my nikon?
You and the seller don't understand how lenses are described.
Your D40 uses ANY Nikkor AF-S lens
The 52 mm you are talking about is actually the filter thread size, so if you need a UV or polarizing filter, that is the size you buy. The filter fits on the front of your lens.
The person selling the 200-400 mm lens has mistaken the 77 mm filter thread with what camera it fits.
You have to know two things.
1) does the seller know what camera it is suppose to fit?
2) is this lens similar to the Nikon AF-S lenses, that is to say, have an internal auto-focus motor in the lens?
My guess is you found a cool lens for a very low price and would like to buy it.
You may want to spend some more time on the Nikon website looking at what AF-S lenses are available for your camera and what different lenses "see".
