Can the Nikon d70, with only the body take photos?
Little confused because of the price. The body only is under $200, but the whole kit is about $800. Can I take decent photos with only the body?
No you can't. Theoretically you could drill a hole in a body cap and do pinhole photography but that's far from practical.
Do realize that this is, by todays standards, an ancient camera. Anyone asking $800 for a kit better have some lenses included to justify that.
If you want a lot of bang for your buck get the body and find a cheap lens, an 18-55 or an 18-135 and use that.
I would ask any seller for an unedited jpg and run that trough opanda or another exif viewer to check the shutter count. If it's above 20000 I wouldn't buy it.
No you need at least one lens, what do you get for your $800? You can get a new mid range DSLR and kit lens for that, seems expensive, but they may have got some nice Nikon lenses in there, these tend not to loose their value.
A quick way to tell what the current price for most anything is is to log into eBay, click on the advanced search (next to the normal search box) enter 'Nikon D70', check the 'completed listings' box and hit enter.
eBay will return with all the 'Nikon D70' auctions over the last few weeks, if the price is in green it sold, in it's in red it didn't.
