Can the af-s dx nikkor 18-55mm vr lens zoom?

That is the lens that comes if I buy a Nikon D3100 (which I'm looking to get), and I wondering if it could zoom?
Also, for additional points, does anyone know what it's other features are? Specifically, can it do macro, bokeh or tilt-shift shots?

The 18-55 is a zoom lens. You can zoom from the wide range (18mm) to more close ups (55mm), although it won't let you do close ups required for macro photos. You'll be able to get nice bokeh at the 55mm end. That lens is really good for a kit lens. If you were after more range the 18-200mm is a versatile, fantastic lens, but it costs a whole lot more.

The lens definitely is not a tilt-shift lens, but you can easily achieve the "miniatures" effect in post with a Photoshop action, or even as a iPhone/iPad app! (search for "Tilt shift" in the app store).

You'll be taking great photos with a "real" SLR camera. Have fun!

Its a very basic lens. It does nothing… Just simple photography with normal results. It has a zoom of 55/18x times.

for simple traveling 18-200vrII is ideal. I use it almost everywhere. With tripod you can use it even for portrait photography.buy some good quality close up filters to do macro work.

As the name - 18mm to 55mm suggests, yes, it does zoom. From 18mm to 55mm.

It is NOT a macro lens. It has "close focus" but hardly macro or anything near it.

Bokeh is the term for the out of focus look behind the subject if the setting are set right. Is is not a "special effect" as such and every lens can do it. The smoothness, or not, of this out of focus area is called bokeh. Google the word.

No, the lens does NOT have any tilt-shift abilities. None what so ever other than you tilting the camera body one way or another.

The other features of this lens are none, other than to give you a small amount of zooming, focus and iris control. Oh, it does have Vibration Reduction technology in it to help in giving you a sharper image. Other than that, is is not anything special.
