Can I use my strobe lights without connecting the sync cord to my camera?
I don't have a pc connection port on my Nikon D90 to connect the sync cord from the strobes to my camera, what can I do?
If by "strobes" up mean studio flash units, you need something like a Pocket Wizard, the transmitter attaches to your hot shoe and the receiver attaches to the power pack.
You can buy a hot shoe to PC adapter, but you will be tripping over the cords if you are shooting fashion or people.
Best thing is to use radio triggers - these will fire battery speedlights or (with an adapter cord) studio lights via the 6mm jack.
The transmitter sits on the hotshoe, the receiver goes on the flash foot (speedlight) or attaches via a short cord/plug to the 6mm input jack on a studio strobe.
Pocket Wizards are THE most expensive brand - I use RF602 triggers - about £20 a set.
Alternatively, if you don't want to buy anything, then studio strobes all come with an optical slave mode - you can use your inbuilt flash (in manual, with the power turned down low) as an optical 'trigger' to fire your strobes.
You can also get a hotshoe -> PC adapter for a PC sync cord, but this does limit you in distance for moving about & the sync cord is a trip hazard.
