Can you use a Nikon flash sync cord with a Vivitar flash?

I have a Nikon D7000 and just got a Vivitar external flash for it. Can I use a Nikon flash sync cord or do I have to get a Vivitar one? What about the remote transmitter… Would that be Nikon or Vivitar?

Best thing you can do is use a Nikon flash with a Nikon camera. I really doubt if any cords are compatable.
