Camera lens hood dilemma

My camera a nikon d3000 dslr with a 18-55mm vr lens
would a 52-77mm step up ring with a 77mm rubber lens hood look silly or too big
at present i have a 52mm rubber lens hood but i get vignetting in all 4 corners
would a larger and wider lens hood say 77mm solve the vignetting problem… Any help would be grateful.

If it works use it. A larger hood will solve the vignetting problem.
As for looks… Oh dear the things people worry about…
Please Sergeant will my scope look too big for this gun?
Just shoot the bl**dy thing, you're not on a fashion parade.

Whether a lens hood looks silly is not the issue.
You MUST buy a lens hood made specifically for the lens you have or you will either suffer vignetting or poor shading of the lens

The best hood for a lens is the one exactly made for it. If you don't get that, you either will get a hood that's too big and suffer from vignetting or get a hood that's too small and useless.
