Budget lens set for Nikon D7000?
Hi I'm on a fairly tight budget for a lens set and was wondering people's opinions on the following proposals. There's some scope to bring higher quality Nikon lenses (e.g.their 70-300 or 16-85 but not all Nikons)
Portrait/City: Nikon AF-S DX 35mm f1.8G
Landscape: Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM
Standard Zoom: Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF)
Super Zoom Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 SP Di VC USD Lens
Okay… Those lenses are hardly budget lenses… The 70-300mm VC from Tamron is a close second to the Nikkor version, the 10-20, well you'll never be wider than f/8 anyway so who cares if it's a little rough round the edges wide open.
The weak link is the Tamron 17-50mm, it's not a bad lens, it's just not so well made, and the autofocus will get you really frustrated. You're better off going with the 35mm to cover this range, and adding a 50mm f1.4 which gives you an added option.
Also consider some less conventional lenses such as the earlier AI or AI-S Nikkor. Even the older Nikkor-P 105mm f2.8 is an interesting lens. Also I like the AF DC-Nikkor 105mm, exceptionally odd, but an amazing portrait lens.
I don't get it! Why spend $$$$ on a camera body then skimp on lenses? The lens is by way the more important than the body.
The Sigma 10-20 is a great lens - I have just bought one of these for my Canon.
Tamron? Wouldn't give em houseroom!
Glass is more important than the camera body. You should've bought a less expensive body so you would have some leftover dough for glass…
