Beginner Photographer, Which Lens Should I Choose?
So i'm buying a Nikon DSLR not sure what model yet (probably D5200 / D3200) but i don't know which lens to choose
Ill use it for Portraits and some urban street shots probably
Which lens should i choose?
Start off with the kit lens - if it comes with a 2 kit bundle (18-55mm + 55-200mm) that'll be ideal.
Use the 55mm end for portraits, for street work anything from 50 - 200mm is good.
Later, if you want a faster prime lens for portraits, then the 50mm f1.8 or the 85mm f1.8 would be great.
The 18-55mm lens is a very good multipurpose lens. Start with that and add lenses as necessary as you gain experience
I have a Nikon D3200, and a 18-55mm lens. The lens is great for beginners, as I'm, the D5200 way more focus points, as I'm aware of, and a larger sensor. If you are looking to do portraits, the 18-55mm will do but if you want a better lens for that, a 50mm f1.8 lens will be even better.
The 18-55 is the most common lens to start with…
I personally recommend the 18-105mm it's not expensive and gives you more scope to be creative, the extra range will stop you from wanting to move on to other lenses too quickly.
If money is tight then the 18-55mm as the others suggest is ideal.
