Compatibility of film lenses with Nikon slrs?
So I'm fairly sure I will be purchasing either the Nikon 3200 or the Nikon 7000 are either of these or any you know of compatible with my old Pentax film camera lenses? I have a Quantaray 52 mm Macro lens that I would love to get some use out of on a digital camera?
No, only lenses made for the Nikon F-Mount will work.
If it's a 52mm screw-in adapter, you could get away with it.
Your Pentax lenses will fit a modern Pentax, though, and they'll meter - unlike MF Nikkors on a modern Nikon.
Hanna, what you need to know when looking for lenses is the type of lens mount. If the camera is film or digital or the lens was used on a film or digital body makes little difference. It's the mount that matters.
Nikon is and has been F-Mount since the 50's.
Pentax is and has been K-mount since the 70's.
You can probably find a K-mount to F-mount adapter online but I'm pretty sure that there's no such thing as a "Quantaray 52mm Macro lens" to begin with. I think you are misunderstanding the name of the lens. 52mm is the filter mount (diameter of lens cap and filters) for most Nikon lenses. 52mm is not a focal length that I've ever heard of. There are 50mm and 55mm lenses, but not 52. You might have some funky zoom lens whose one extreme is 52mm. But I highly doubt that you have a 52mm prime lens. Lenses are identified by their brand, focal length, maximum aperture and if it's a specialty lens like a macro would be. I'm pretty sure that you are confused about something your lens and learning what it actually is will help you find a similar lens if you want to.
If your lens is a Quantaray zoom lens, it probably is not worth the cost of an adapter to keep using as the quality of it is probably very poor.
If you want to use budget manual focus lenses, I highly recommend just using Nikon AI, AIS and Series E lenses instead.
Enjoy and good luck with your new camera!
