You chose NIKON or CANON? WHY?
You chose NIKON or CANON? WHY?
Nikon has more lenses…
I chose Pentax, because I'm more interested in a good camera than wearing a badge.
To be fair, I was probably shooting with Pentax before you were born.
Someone told me you do not really buy a camera body. You really start to invest in a lens library. If you grow with the hobby, you will spend more in lens's and accessories than the body of the camera.
I did a quick scan of ebay to find out how many used lens were available for Canon, Sony, Nikon. There are a lot more Canon lens's available than for Sony or Nikon combined.
More supply usually means lower prices as well.
Newbies live a fear-filled life. They have little voices in their heads telling them "… A higher end camera will hide/make up for my lack of skills & talent."
In truth a new photographer has a few years before even the entry level Canon T3i might be holding him back. So buying a more budget body with a larger supply of different lens's is probably better for people to start out with.
I didn't choose Nikon or Canon because it would have meant paying too much for the name - like Andrew, I went with Pentax. I own Canon camcorders and an old Canon S90, so I've nothing against them from a technical standpoint.
Canon. Nikon limits you to using primarily their accessories while canon is closer to open source so that you can use 3rd party accessories with your camera
I chose the Nikon D3200 but my husband bought me the Canon T3i. Neither one of us new a good camera from a bad camera. I love my T3i.
Nikon chose me in 1986…
Both brands are capable and reliable at pro level. Market presence and industry support is important if you're a pro. (It costs money to part from tradition and jump ship from either).
If you're a newbie choose a Canon with an articulating LCD if you want to do video or do low level dynamic shots.
A mature photographer coming back to their hobby might choose a Pentax DSLR over any of them. Though they might be tempted by Olympus mirrorless and Sony A6500.
There are no terrible DSLRs. I think Canon make more reliable compact cameras than Nikon these days.
I chose PENTAX because I liked it better than Canon or Nikon.
