Can I use dollar store batteries for my Nikon camera?

I've been using Duracell batteries for my camera and they run out really fast. They are really expensive as well so I was wondering if I could use cheap AA batteries from the dollar store.
Will it damage my camera or anything?

No they won't damage your camera… But they will run out even faster.

Your camera is optimized for rechargeable NiMH AA batteries. Four of those and a charger costs less than $20. If you buy the low self-discharge type, you will be much happier.

Yes, you can use them.
But they won't last long either.
It'd be cheaper in the long run to just get a better digital camera.
One that you charge with electricity. The charge lasts ages and you don't need to keep buying any batteries.

Your camera will probably not even turn on with dollar store batteries.

They in fact can damage your camera.

Any battery can leak, but cheap batteries are typically prone to leaking, and if you put them in your camera, you run a higher risk of electrolyte leaking out of the batteries during use/storage.

Cheap batteries are cheaper as they are not built as well. Since they are not built as well, they are more prone to leakage.

Electrolyte is highly corrosive, and if it leaks inside of your camera, will severely damage it, and will be unusable.

You can go to either non-rechargeable Lithium Iron Disulfide batteries such as Eveready Lithium, which will last longer, or go with Ni-MH rechargeable batteries. You can buy a set of 4 Sanyo Eneloop Ni-MH batteries and charger for under $20.

Yes, but I wouldn't. Cheap batteries can leak, and damage your camera.
Your best bet is to buy a battery / charger set. These can be recharged 100's of times.

Dollar store alkaline batteries will only run out even faster. You need to buy specialist Lithium batteries or NiMH rechargeables for cameras.
