Can I do the same things a cannon rebel t2i do with a Nikon j1?

Should I get a cannon rebel t2i? T3i? T3? Or a Nikon d3500, or a Nikon j1 can I do the same things? I wanna do light writing and artistic things!

You wanna do exactly the same stuff as you've seen others doing. That's sad.

You don't need a DSLR to do light writing, or 'artistic things' your p&s will be more than capable, only when you NEED manual settings should you even consider moving to a dslr.

If you really want to be artistic then you'll find a DSLR type camera such as Canon's t2i or Nikon's D3100 will do almost everything the Nikon J1 will, and it'll be easier to use as you do it. The one feature DSLRs struggle with is the very high speed continuous shooting that the J1 is capable off.
