Best Nikon camera for beginners (photographers)?
I'm 13 and I'm getting into photography. My birthday is coming up and I want a nikon. What is a good nikon for beginners?
The D3100 is a good place to start. It's the cheapest entry level dslr they have, but is very capable.
If you can't afford a DSLR, forget Nikon. Fujifilm do better bridge cameras.
As Bob says an entry level DSLR. Forget compacts or bridge cameras. The Nikon D3100 is superb and to be honest you do not need anything better.learn to use it on manual settings, and you will find you never need to upgrade. More expensive cameras just have more bells and whistles that do nothing. Also learn how to use photoshop, and then you will really find out why a Nikon DSLR is far better than a bridge camera or a compact.
Although the Nikon D3100 with the 18-55mm zoom lens is an adequate beginner DSLR, its not the only choice. I suggest looking at the Pentax K-30 which is about $200.00 more but features a weather-sealed body and lens. Although weather-sealed doesn't mean the camera is waterproof it does make it usable in a light rain or under dusty conditions. A non weather-sealed camera like the D3100 means no photography under adverse (rainy, dusty) conditions unless you're willing to risk damaging the camera.
Another plus for the Pentax K-30 is it has a focusing motor in the camera body which the Nikon D3100 doesn't. With the D3100 you must use the more expensive Nikon AF-S lenses if you want auto focus. With the K-30 any auto focus lens ever made for a Pentax auto focus camera can be used and will auto focus as they should.
The Pentax K-30 also has Pentax's version of Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body - another feature not found in any Nikon or Canon DSLR. Any lens used on the K-30 becomes an IS lens. With Nikon you have to pay for their version of IS (called VR by Nikon) which is in some but not all of their lenses over and over.
