I just bought the Nikon D5200 for short films I tried using it with the stock lenses that came with it but the picture looked poorly. What video settings are best? What lenses should I buy? I'm looking for sharpness that good quality feel. Not concern with the budget i can invest in a good one.

Your shutter speed needs to 2x of the fps that you're shooting at. For example 60fps requires a 1/125th of a second shutter speed. This can be very problematic if you're shooting in low light. You would have to use a lens with a larger aperture than what is commonly found in kit lenses. A great example would be a lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 or larger such as f/1.4. Getting an f/1.4 lens would be one of the best things for video. Not only does it provide more light in all situations, but you have better control of the depth of field, meaning you can blur out backgrounds. Also, lenses that have f/2.8 or f/1.4 apertures are usually high-end lenses that have vastly superior image quality than the kit lenses. Sigma makes an 18-35 f/1.8 lens that is about the sharpest lens in its class, but at nearly $900 it's not something that the average user just goes out and buys. If you can swing it, get it.

Your kit lens is adequate for video. If the quality is bad, it's because of user error, not the quality of the lens.

Since you are new to this camera, the problems you re having are most likely caused by your inexperience and unfamiliarity with the camera. The D5200 is a perfectly capable camera. However shooting video with a DSLR will be more of a challenge than shooting with a camcorder.
